If this is your first time making crystal dumplings, don’t worry if you don’t get the hang of the pleating that I demonstrate below. HOW TO MAKE CRYSTAL DUMPLINGSĬrystal dumplings are one of the trickiest dumplings to make because the skin can dry out or tear easily. For those of you who are sensitive or allergic to gluten, you can buy Bob’s Red Mill’s gluten-free flours with confidence. ![]() Plus, their gluten-free flours are actually tested and verified as gluten free in their laboratories. What I love about Bob’s Red Mill’s flours is that they’re easy to find in my neighborhood supermarkets. To make these dumplings gluten free, I used Bob’s Red Mill’s potato starch and tapioca flour (tapioca starch) to make the dough. I decided to make a gluten-free crystal dumpling recipe because I have received many requests to make gluten-free dumpling recipes. Typically, crystal dumpling dough is made with wheat starch and another variety of starch. Shrimp dumplings (蝦餃) and Chiu Chow fun go (潮州粉粿) are examples of crystal dumplings. The dough for this variety of dumplings becomes translucent once cooked, revealing the beautiful color of the fillings. Thank you to Bob’s Red Mill for sponsoring this post!Ĭrystal dumplings are a staple of dim sum menus. Also, the dumplings are freezer friendly. They are filled with tofu and vegetables and seasoned with gochujang and tamari. In addition to manufacturing electrical components, Sprague had a large research and development department. During World War II Sprague operated around the clock and employed a large female workforce-not only due to the lack of men, but also because it took small hands and manual dexterity to construct the small, hand-rolled capacitors. Sprague) Sprague Electric Company was a local North Adams company, and it purchased the Marshall Street complex to produce capacitors. In 1942 Arnold Print Works was forced to close its doors and leave North Adams due to the low prices of cloth produced in the South and abroad, as well as the economic effects of the Great Depression. In addition to printing the textiles, Arnold Print Works expanded and built their own cloth-weaving facilities in order to produce "grey cloth", which was the crude, unfinished textile from which printed color cloth was made. Arnold had offices in New York City and Paris. ![]() Arnold produced 580,000 yards or 330 miles of cloth per week. The industrial qualities of the buildings remain, despite the conversion to a fine arts museumĪt its peak in 1905, Arnold print works employed more than 3,000 workers and was one of the world's leading producers of printed textiles. By 1900, every building but one in today's Marshall Street complex was constructed. Despite a nationwide depression during the 1870s Arnold Print Works purchased additional land along the Hoosic River and constructed new buildings. Rebuilding started almost immediately and an expanded complex was finished in 1874. In December 1871, a fire swept through the Arnold Print Works factory and destroyed eight of its buildings. Aiding their success were large government contracts during the Civil War to supply cloth for the Union Army. They began operating in 1862 and quickly took off. In 1860 the Arnold brothers arrived at this site and set up their company with the latest equipment for printing cloth. Since colonial times small-scale industries had been located on this strategic peninsular location between the north and south branches of the Hoosic River. These buildings, however, were not the first to occupy this site. The buildings that MASS MoCA now occupies were originally built between 18 by the company Arnold Print Works. The base ingredient in beer is malt, which refers to grain - usually barley - that’s been germinated in order to become fermentable. The harder sell has been convincing craft beer lovers that a millet- or quinoa-based beer can be delicious. According to Facts and Factors Marketing Research, the global market for gluten-free products reached $22 billion in 2019. The market for gluten-free food has exploded over the years some studies estimate that as much as 30% of the population may be trying to follow a gluten-free diet, though just 1% of Americans suffer from Celiac disease, the serious autoimmune condition. “Until recently there wasn’t really access to quality raw materials,” says Otherwise co-founder Aaron Gervais. Gregory Sims of Sacramento, left, and his brother, Fred Sims, sit outside at Buck Wild Brewing in Oakland. New developments in science and the supply chain, especially the commercial availability of gluten-free malt, have suddenly enabled brewers to produce beers of a much higher quality than the lackluster, off-tasting efforts of the past. In fact, the founders of both companies say the gluten-free beer movement is just beginning. A second gluten-free beer brand, Otherwise Brewing, debuted in San Francisco this month with a lager made from sushi rice. “The best compliment we can get about our pale ale is, ‘This tastes like a pale ale,’” he says.īuck Wild is not alone. For many people, memories of cardboard-like crackers and dry breads linger. “It was a conscious decision to mute the gluten-free messaging, since gluten-free products are not viewed in the most favorable light,” says Bernstein. On the outside of the building, which used to be a meat processing plant, a colorful mural reads “craft beer for all.”īut Buck Wild, whose taproom opened in November, is not typical: All of its beers are gluten-free, and instead of the traditional barley or wheat, they’re made from grains like millet, buckwheat and rice. Similar to other Bay Area breweries, it has a brewhouse and more than 10 beer styles available on tap or in cans, from saison to hazy IPA. As you move along the period, the number of mobile electrons donated by each atom into the sea of delocalised electrons increases so that the metal becomes better at conducting electricity. Sodium, magnesium and aluminum all exist as giant metallic lattices and hence are able to conduct electricity. Electrical conductivity increases across metals. As the van der Waals forces in argon are weak, a very small amount of energy is needed to break them and therefore the melting point is low.Įlectrical Conductivity Trend Across Period 3.Argon is a noble gas and has a very low melting point as it exists as a monoatomic element consisting of very weak van der Waals forces. Therefore sulfur has the highest melting point, compared to phosphorous and chlorine. As sulfur is the largest molecule out of the three, it contains the most number of electrons and the strongest van der Waals forces.More energy is required to break stronger induced dipole-dipole forces, therefore the melting point is higher. The greater the number of electron clouds, the stronger the induced dipole-dipole forces. A larger molecule contains more electrons, therefore it consists of larger electron clouds. The stronger the induced dipole-dipole forces, the higher the melting point. The shape of a molecule and the distance between the molecules affects the strength of induced dipole-dipole forces. The melting point of these substance depends on the varying strength of van der Waals forces. For this reason, the melting points of these simple molecular substances are low. As learned earlier, van der Waals forces are weak intermolecular forces which require a small amount of energy to break.Phosphorous (P4), sulfur (S8) and chlorine (Cl2) are simple molecular substances which consist of van der Waals forces. The change in melting point from Phosphorous to Chlorine (P to Cl) ![]()

You might also be interested in our guide to buying your first multimeter, and picking an oscilloscope.Īnother thing you might want to consider, depending on the nature of your project is that there are more efficient circuit designs out there for USB charger circuits that utilize semiconductors and switching. Here’s a han dy parts list for this project to get you started: RELATED: Voltage Divider Calculator Parts List for this Project You might start with our tutorial called “ What is voltage?” Another great way to step down voltage for small loads is to use a voltage divider. As we go through this tutorial we will link quite a few additional resources in case you need some help. If you’re new to electronics we have a ton of resources to help you get started. We will do that with a LM7805 voltage regulator and heatsink. Additionally, we need to step down our voltage from 12V to 5V. ![]() Voltage Regulation – Finally, we want to ensure our circuit outputs a consistent voltage, even if the power from the mains is not stable. We will add some capacitors to solve this problem. Filtration – We want to make sure this circuit is stable and not producing ripple. We will do that by building a super simple full wave bridge rectifier circuit. Rectification – After stepping down the voltage to 12 volts AC, we need to convert it to DC or direct current. In our case we’re going to step down the voltage to 12 volts AC. Voltage Step Down – First thing we have to do is step the voltage down from 120 volts AC to something low enough we can work with.We will step through this build in 4 phases of construction: A USB charger circuit ouputs a regulated 5V that can be used to power USB devices or even charge mobile phones and other devices. In this project we’re going to make a USB charger circuit from some simple parts we have lying around the house. In the latest (as of late last year, when Patrick began his research) version of Zoom, everything seemed to be okay. Encryption was implemented, making that more complicated, but it’s still possible to substitute the file after downloading when it’s already saved on the disk but not yet installed. Ten years ago, accessing servers without data encryption was common practice, allowing a potential attacker to simply replace the update file with malware. Unfortunately, this process of communicating with the server, then downloading and installing the update, is not always implemented correctly. Zoom tried to simplify this procedure: the client accesses the server, downloads the new version, and it installs all by itself without requiring the user to enter a password. The bog-standard way to update a macOS application is no different from its first installation: download the new version, run the file, and enter a user password. In some particularly serious cases, you need to protect vulnerable software against active cyberattacks immediately: one day of delay can cost you data. But it’s vital to do so: updates close security holes that could otherwise be used against you. We all get annoyed by pop-up messages reminding us to update a program, operating system, smartphone or tablet firmware. To complete an update, you often have to restart a program, re-login, or even reboot. Ideally, bug fixes should be installed without the user even noticing, but this isn’t always possible. ![]() Timely delivery and easy installation of updates are important requirements for any modern piece of software. Theoretically, the vulnerability could also be exploited by malware, which otherwise would not cause serious damage to the user. But this is not an entirely unrealistic scenario: for example, the user might go for lunch and forget to lock their computer. To exploit the vulnerability, however, the attacker needed to have already had physical access to the computer, albeit without special rights. These bugs, in theory, made it possible to obtain so-called super-user rights, which allowed a would-be attacker to do whatever they want on the host computer. ![]() Long story short, a few of bugs were found in the automatic update system for am Apple Zoom client. The new problem in the Zoom videoconferencing client was highlighted by renowned researcher Patrick Wardle at DEF CON 30 in early August of this year. ![]() It ends with advice regarding what to do about it. This post examines this latest security issue, and seeks to explain why holes in software sometimes crop up repeatedly in the same place. Fast-forward to August 2022, and a similar hole has been found (in terms of both location and exploitation consequences). In March 2020, as the whole world was just getting to grips with working remotely, a vulnerability was discovered in the installer of Zoom - one of the world’s prime remote communication tools - allowing arbitrary code execution on Apple computers.
